Mum's on the Run' is an insiders view of life in a Jewish Women's Refuge. Shot over eight months, the film offers an immediacy and an honesty about its characters and the issues they face, captured in a emotional yet unsentimentally brutal way. A powerful, unselfconscious 15 minutes, worthy of a second or third viewing as this brief snapshot into the lives of abuse survivors is seldom seen on screen in such an authentic, dynamic way. The home video style, structure and mood of the piece is organic, vibrant and honest. A refreshing intimate film, full of joy, fear and loss shot by a larger than life new documentary maker, Alicia Hoser.
