PORTOBELLO FILM FESTIVAL 2004 COMING SOON
Cometh the hour. Cometh the Film Festival.
Portobello Film Festival returns in the run up to Carnival with
the best and biggest line up ever.
Running every night at Westbourne Studios, 242 Acklam Road W10,
from 9-22 August (apart from 13-15 when we present our 3 day
park extravaganza) theme nights include Music Videos with films
from Mute Records, Wall Of Sound, Ninja Tunes, The Barracudas,
Ireland & Man With A Movie Camera with soundtrack from Cinematic
Orchestra, International evening including Cuba Libre with Harvey
Keitel, Documentary day featuring a film on Derek Jarman, An
Evening With the Film Councils Short Circuit low budget film
project, a new film Northern Soul by Shane Meadows, an art film
night including work by BowieArt, An Evening With Metrodome
- distributors of Monster and Donnie Darko featuring previews
of new films The Corporation with Michael Moore and Lemon Vodka
and this years Oscar animation winner- Harvey Krumpet, new comedy
Hello Friend by Graham (Father Ted) Linehan, community films
including the follow up to 2000's winner The Real Notting Hill,
a day of Arab and Israeli films seeking a bridge in the divide,
and two evenings of the best in the latest contemporary shorts
by new directors.
Three days and nights (13 -15 August) in Meanwhile Gardens Park
W10 by Westbourne Park tube, feature a day with Mike Figgis-the
visionary director introduces three of his rare and seminal
documentaries on Flamenco, Frankfurt City Ballet and Vivian
Westwood, plus a super skateboard Sunday with top skaters performing
live in the bowl and Stoked-the cautionary tale of Gator from
Dogtown currently in jail serving 30 years.
More music videos, daft and silly films, and performance events
at the Elgin pub, Ladbroke Grove W10, on 10 -12 & 17 -19
August and latecomers/bring your own at Westway Sports Bar,
Crowthorne Road W10. 16-23 August.
The Festival climaxes at The Electric Cinema, Portobello Road
W11 on 24 August with prizes from JVC (Cameras and combis) and
Cyberlink (digital editing software) for shortlisted films.
Entry to all screenings is free.
